On 24 July, the Niger Delta experienced another pipeline explosion.
It has been stated that the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) are behind the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) gas pipeline explosion that occurred in Akwa Ibom.
The NDA spokesman, Brig Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, stated: ºÚÁÏÉçœ11:30 pm on Sunday, the NDA blow up the NNPC, gas pipeline at Nsit-Ibom L.G.A, Akwa Ibom state. NNPC should check their pipeline if itºÚÁÏÉç™s ºÚÁÏÉç˜system anomalyºÚÁÏÉç™.ºÚÁÏÉç
Since February, the NDA have attacked a number of different pipelines and facilities, such as Shell, Chevron, Exxon and Eni.
However, Murtala Mani ºÚÁÏÉç“ the State Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom ºÚÁÏÉç“ believes the explosion was caused by a technical fault.
Mani stated: ºÚÁÏÉçœThis is no militancy attack. Our men are on ground and the fire service had put off the fire. It is confirmed that there was an explosion in Obotim Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state. Officials confirmed that the pipelines are old and overdue for servicing. There are technical problems in the gas pipeline.ºÚÁÏÉç
The NNPC have not yet confirmed or denied the attack.
