China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) announced yesterday that it is racing to restore operations in the West-East gas pipeline, which was knocked offline by a landslide in the southern city of Shenzhen that left more than 90 people missing.
CNPC, the state-owned parent of listed unit PetroChina Co., also said in a statement that no explosion had occurred at the affected pipeline.
Some media outlets reported that an explosion had occurred.
The landslide on Sunday engulfed an industrial area and overturned buildings, trapping residents and workers.
The West-East Gas Pipeline, which carries natural gas some 8000 km across China, passes through Shenzhen.
CNPC said it had dispatched a team of workers to construct a temporary pipeline to restore supplies following the landslide, a process it said would require seven to 10 days to complete.
