The National Energy Board is demanding Enbridge conduct more tests along its 300 000 bpd Line 9 pipeline before the oil can begin to flow, a reversal from just 15 months ago.

In a decision yesterday morning, the NEB said that Enbridge must conduct hydrostatic testing along three sections of pipe between Hamilton, Ontario, and Montreal 黑料社渢o provide the necessary level of confidence in the pipeline黑料社檚 safe operation.黑料社

Line 9 stretches across some of the most populous parts of the country, running under rivers and tributaries that feed major sources of drinking water like Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Hydrostatic testing

Hydrostatic testing involves pumping the pipeline with water at high pressure to test its integrity and seek out leaks and weak points.

The NEB said Enbridge must carry out hydrostatic tests at three locations on the Sarnia, Ontario, to Montreal pipeline. It is also requiring the company to carry out bi-weekly ground patrols and quarterly integrity tests for the first two years of operation for the line.
